Escape Into Fantasy: Meet Jasmine Catherine, the Daydreaming Songstress Turning Stories Into Soundscapes

Some artists write about their lives. Others reflect the world around them. But for UK-based singer, songwriter, and performer Jasmine Catherine, her music is a portal — a doorway to fantastical worlds built on the pages of books, the echoes of symphonies, and the power of imagination. With her bubbly energy, unwavering determination, and a sincerity that beams through every lyric, Jasmine isn’t just a musician — she’s a fantasy builder.

Forever a Daydreamer

When asked to describe herself in three words, Jasmine chose: bubbly, determined, genuine. And those qualities breathe through every note she sings. But what truly defines her is the way she wears her title of daydreamer like a badge of honour.

“To me, dreaming isn’t just something you do while you sleep,” she says. “I dream wide awake — and then I build those dreams into reality.” From teaching music to producing fantasy-fueled songs, Jasmine is living proof that dreaming doesn’t mean drifting — it means daring.

The Moment Music Chose Her

While many artists discover their passion later in life, Jasmine’s story is one of lifelong connection. “I don’t remember a time music wasn’t part of my life,” she shares. Despite pressure from school and society to pursue a more 'proper' career — from doctor to lawyer — her heart always stayed true to the arts.

A turning point came during university when she was offered a music scholarship, even though the school didn’t offer a music degree. While studying business, a former teacher invited her to begin teaching music — and everything changed. “I left uni, fell in love with teaching, performing, writing, and never looked back.”

Writing Soundtracks for Fantastical Worlds

Jasmine proudly calls herself a writer of fantasy songs — cinematic, story-rich pieces that sweep listeners into other dimensions. It’s a craft that began in high school, during a time when she struggled with major anxiety. “I couldn’t even walk into the building some days. But fantasy books were my escape — they let me breathe.”

Now, she uses her music to offer that same escape to others. With influences like John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and the theatrical flair of musical theatre, she crafts songs that feel like they belong in a movie.

Take her recent release, Shadowfire, for example. Inspired by Throne of Glass character Kaltain, the song is a soaring anthem of reclaiming power. “Her story is tragic, but she fought back and took control of her destiny. That’s what Shadowfire is really about: knowing no one can take your fire from you.”

From Melodies to Magic

Jasmine’s creative process is flexible — sometimes the story leads, other times it’s the melody. She might sit at the piano and let something emerge, or build an entire soundscape around a specific narrative idea.

“No two days are ever the same,” she says. Her mornings often start with a walk with her spaniel Enzo, followed by recording content, writing new songs, or working on her EP. Afternoons are devoted to teaching at her beloved Harmony Academy, where she fosters young talent in the performing arts.

And in between? She’s also preparing for her Fellowship exam in Musical Theatre, keeping her piano and theory skills sharp, and — yes — making time to breathe.

Multitalented and Fearlessly Creative

Jasmine is more than a musician — she’s also an actress and model, and she uses all three disciplines to enrich her artistry. “My songs are theatrical, so acting is essential. And modelling helped me feel confident in front of a camera for my visuals and cover art.”

When she’s not creating, you’ll likely find her curled up with a book or walking through nature with her partner and Enzo. “Reading recharges me — and fuels my songwriting.”

A Woman Navigating the Music World

Despite her many successes, Jasmine has faced her share of challenges in the industry. “The hardest part has been being seen and heard for my music — not just my looks,” she says. From inappropriate comments to being talked down to, and even being denied opportunities because she’s a woman, she’s encountered plenty of barriers.

“There are venues where I wouldn’t feel safe performing without someone with me,” she admits. But she stays grounded by focusing on her “why.” “I do this because I love it — because I want to inspire people. And I’d rather miss an opportunity than lose my joy for it.”

Her call for change? “More respect. For women as artists, professionals, and human beings.”

Looking Ahead with Wonder

With a powerful creative force behind her and fantasy-inspired visuals that feel like stepping into a storybook, Jasmine has big things on the horizon. Her next single "Rise" drops July 25th, accompanied by a music video. The follow-up is already in production — and her debut EP is on the way.

“I want my music to feel like watching a mini movie,” she says. “Escapism is at the heart of everything I create.”

And while Jasmine’s world is built on fantasy, her ambitions are real. Dream collabs? “I’d love to work with the Bookish Songs Collective — or write a musical. Consider this my application to work with Lin-Manuel Miranda!”

Just for Fun

Want to know a fun fact about Jasmine Catherine? As a teenager, she won a national air rifle competition — just to prove a point. “I entered regionals out of sheer stubbornness because someone said I wouldn’t do well… and I ended up winning the whole thing!”

And if she could live inside any story for a day? She’s torn between flying dragons in Fourth Wing and curling up in Belle’s giant library in Beauty and the Beast — two perfect escapes for a woman who turns every melody into magic.
